How much to replace a front flex pipe on a 2002 hyundai elantra gls?

Question: How much to replace a front flex pipe on a 2002 hyundai elantra gls?

I went to the dealership and they quoted $934.41 with tax. Is this the kind of job a "regular " mechanic can do and do it as well as the "specially trained " dealership mechanics. Thank you. There are quotes because this is how I differentiate and how they described themselves.

Unfortunately that is a very expensive part to replace because the manufacturer makes that flex pipe a part of a system. The system is comprised of the exhaust down pipe, the catalytic converter, That piece of flex pipe and the flange. You can purchase the system from a local parts store for about half that price and pay a garage to install it for you because any mechanic can replace it. You can also go to an exhaust shop and have a new piece of flex pipe welded in to save more money if you want. Most exhaust shops will charge around $200.00 to weld in a new flex pipe for you. If you can weld and have the ability to do it yourself you can buy a piece of flex pipe for around $50.00 and the gaskets needed for about $20.00 and save even more money. Hope I have been helpful. And to Kelly_F_ they are not talking about the axle shafts. It is a part of the exhaust system as I stated.

I see the problem your going to car dealership where they sale cars and not to a auto repair shop where they repair cars "specially trained " dont make them smarter or cheaper call three local shops ask same question and flex pipe your mean boot for axles? more likely they was going to replace cv joint axle and boot cover you call it a flex i guess and 900. woul dbe high for that as well a slip on cover cost you at auto zone 30 bucks maybe but smarter to replace axle since with boot torned you dont know how long or how much dirt in or as got on bearing or joint dont need dealership to repair any car they sale cars where shops repair them most mechanics specially trained some work for a dealerships which charge you dealership prices make them least likey place to go get work done or last place to go get anything done cheap call three local shops you wil save a 100 bucks at least if not more a regular mechanic all you need i replace my own a few months ago in drive way "specially trained " back yard mechanic like me can do it for half that price been driving and working on cars since before i started driving 40 yrs ago dont need a dealership unless your buying a new car
